Liberty Children's Home Liberty’s residential care and rehabilitation centre – Liberty Children’s Home – is situated in Ladyville, on the outskirts of Belize City, and opened in the summer of 2005. The Children Liberty does not just give a child shelter and food but provides an environment where children are respected, nurtured and treated as individuals. The care at Liberty is influenced by the Pikler method of childcare, a well researched approach developed to prevent the damaging effects of institutionalisation on children. Liberty also draws from the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches that aim for the fullest possible development of the whole child. Each child has a key caregiver who he/she spends extra one on one time with to help develop trust in adults and the ability to form relationships. The children also receive regular medical attention, counselling and physiotherapy as needed. The Buildings Foster/Adoption Advisory Board |
